Apache
has been the most popular web server on the Internet since April of
1996. The March 2000 Netcraft
Web Server Survey found that over 60% of the web sites on the
Internet are using Apache (over 62% if Apache derivatives are included),
thus making it more widely used than all other web servers combined.
The Apache project is an effort to develop and maintain an open-source
HTTP server for various modern desktop and server operating systems,
such as UNIX and Windows NT. The goal of this project is to provide
a secure, efficient and extensible server which provides HTTP services
in sync with the current HTTP standards. |

Sun is distributing
StarOffice software free: the only cost you incur is for value-added
services that increase productivity, such as training and support.
StarOffice software supports everything from the Solaris[tm] Operating
Environment and Linux to Windows 2000, NT, 98, and 95 platforms.
Need to change platforms? No problem, just bring all your StarOffice
files right along with you.
This cross-platform interoperability means you can send StarOffice
files to all your colleagues and friends without knowing exactly
what hardware and software they're using. It's easy to export your
StarOffice files to other suite formats, including Microsoft Office.
And it's just as easy for you to import documents created in those
other programs, too.

Red
Hat, a company that aims to make it easier for people to use Linux.
Because the source code for the Linux kernel is freely distributed,
a number of businesses have developed their own "distribution" of
Linux. A distribution has its own feature set, and some are geared
toward specific types of computer systems. Red Hat's approach is to
bundle all the necessary bits and pieces into a cohesive distribution.
Since Red Hat Linux's introduction in the summer of 1994, Linux and
Red Hat have grown by leaps and bounds. Much has changed, including
support for more esoteric hardware from large software vendors, and
the growing use of Linux by companies around the world.
Currently Redhat is the most widely use Linux distribution. |
